Training & Professional Development

EDANL strives to provide economic developers in Newfoundland and Labrador with access to training and professional development opportunities.

Current Courses

Through 2022, based in input from its members and key stakeholders, EDANL created two courses to meet the specific and expressed needs of economic developers in Newfoundland and Labrador:

Since first delivery in January 2023, over 35 economic developers in the province have participated in this training.

There are no delivery dates scheduled for these courses at this time, but please stay tuned to our newsletter for information upcoming delivery. If you are interested in taking this course, please contact us directly, and we can work with you to schedule it in.

Course Development

EDANL is continuing its efforts to create more training resources for economic developers in Newfoundland and Labrador. EDANL has also, in the past, worked to bring national courses and certifications to the province and can do so again if interest is expressed by its members.

The Harris Centre
The Harris Centre is Memorial University’s hub for public policy and regional development. The Centre can help connect economic development professionals with researchers at Memorial University and help broker research opportunities – acting as a bridge between communities and the university. Throughout the year, the Harris Centre holds public events and forums on public policy as well as engagement sessions in various parts of the province that bring together community leaders and university researchers. Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC)
The mission of the Economic Developers Association of Canada is to enhance the professional competence of economic developers and ensure placement of highly professional and qualified practitioners in the field of economic development. EDAC offers an economic development certificate program and training in conjunction with the University of Waterloo as well as a professional accreditation program.

University of Waterloo – Economic Development Program
EDAC and University of Waterloo have partnered to offer a suite of professional development programming to get economic development professionals up to speed and at the leading edge. Its courses and seminars are accredited by EDAC and will help you get your Certified Economic Developer designation (EcD). The University of Waterloo also offers a Master of Economic Development & Innovation that can be taken either full-time or part-time.
