(St. John’s, NL) – During the Economic Developers Association of Canada’s (EDAC) annual conference held in Edmonton, Alberta last month, a number of EDANL members were recognized at a national level for their accomplishments or commitment to the field of Economic Development.

Three Economic Development professionals from the province will reside on the national board for the next term:

EDANL is pleased to have strong representation on the EDAC board and is looking forward to working with the national association on initiatives that support practitioners and strengthen the field of Economic Development in Canada.

It is noteworthy that during EDAC’s Marketing of Canada Awards, the City of Mount Pearl won three marketing awards for Single Advertisement, Promotional Items and Advertising Campaign for the budget category of over $600,000. Mount Pearl was awarded the EDAC Cup for overall best marketing submission for its Consider It Done Campaign.

EDAC also recognizes professional development achievements. EDAC members, with both academic background and relevant experience, may complete EDAC’s stringent certification program in conjunction with the University of Waterloo that includes training, practical experience, a major research paper and both oral and written examinations. Individuals who successfully complete the process are granted the professional designations.

This year during the annual conference, two individuals from Newfoundland and Labrador were recognized for completing their professional designations. Steve Kent was granted his Certified Economic Developer (Ec.D.) Designation and Jennifer Penney earned her Certified Economic Developer Fellowship, Ec.D (F). Jennifer joins approximately 40 professionals in Canada to have earned the Fellowship Designation to date.

EDANL would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to its members recognized during the EDAC conference for their tremendous contribution to their communities and their profession both provincially and nationally.

EDANL is committed to offering quality professional development opportunities to its members in the province. This past June, EDANL offered Year 1 of the University of Waterloo Economic Development Certificate program in St. John’s, and will be offering Year 2 this spring. The Economic Development Certificate is the first step to working towards EDAC’s professional designation of Certified Economic Developer. EDANL is pleased to support economic developers in Newfoundland and Labrador in achieving their professional development goals and enhancing their competencies by honing core skillsets and sharing best practices.

The Economic Developers Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (EDANL) is the provincial organization of economic developers pursuing excellence in the field. The Association’s mission is to enhance the professional competence of Economic Development Officers; to advance economic development as a distinct, recognized, and self-governing profession; and to contribute to the province’s economic well-being.
